1963 Z06 Corvette Tanker Discovered-Linked To Yenko Chevrolet

During the early months of 2010, facing weeks of staying at home and recovering from open heart surgery, I had the time to reflect on many blessings in my life.  A subject that was on my mind (and has been for more than 40 years) was Corvettes, more specifically, my Corvette Collection.

I kept thinking of one Corvette in my collection that is not yet ready for public display and viewing.  My 1963 Z06 with the 36.5 gallon "big tank and big brake" options was the topic of many days of "thinking."

I first acquired the car at a Dana Mecum Auction during the Corvettes at Carlisle event back in August of 2002.  By serial number, I knew it was in the third group of 1963 Z06's manufactured, produced in mid January of 1963, and that it was one of the first 15 made.  Assumptions were that it had to have been delivered to one of the major Corvette dealers and most likely could have a race history behind it.  What an awesome thought during those days of recovery!

Unfortunately, every avenue I took led to no conclusive answers, only more questions or a confirmed end of that trail.  Fortunately, in early October NCRS announced a new service that would confirm the Original Delivery Dealer, and thus, allow the ownership search to start from that point forward.

Several anxious weeks after applying for this information the letter finally arrived.  Much like my Barn Find, the anxiety of what was on the "inside" of that envelope was an exciting "experience."  As I opened the envelope and unfolded the letter, I got way more than my $40 worth!  My 1963 Z06 was delivered to: Yenko Chevolet, Cannonsburg, PA.

For us car guys, just that fact alone is a GREAT asset to the car, let alone what possibilities might exist now that I have that piece of information.

If you are a member of NCRS, and would like to know more about your Corvette’s history, check out this service.  If you are not a member of NCRS - JOIN.  I have been a member since 1975 and this new service alone, available to members only, is well worth the price of membership!
