First Annual Corvette Club Olympics Hosted by Mid America Motorworks
Saturday July 25th, 2009 was the date for Mid America Motorworks' First Annual Corvette Club Olympics. Nancy Bushur, Corvette Club liaison was the hostess of the event. Members of Coles County Corvette Cub, Corvette Club of Illinois and Looking Glass Corvette Club, formed five teams to compete in the various events.
In true Corvette Club fashion, competition was heavy, any and all rules were applied to the nth of their meaning! From creeper races to covering Corvettes with car covers, each unique team was spurred on to victory by their very competitive fellow club members!
As the event progressed, we noticed lots of smiles, lots of laughs and some anxious winners! A tentative time frame at this point for 2010 indicates July as the month. Watch www.mamotorworks.com, this blog and our catalogs for notices of next year's Corvette Club Olympics event. Nancy's goal is to have over twenty clubs here to participate!
The toughest event of the day was the Corvette Crossed Flags identification contest. Did you know that all Corvettes from 1953 to 1982 had the checkered flag on the right? The 1984 C4 Corvette was the first year that the checkered flags on the logo appeared on the left? Check it out. A little known piece of Corvette trivia, that might win you a free beer sometime!!

I did okay in identifying the variations during the contest, except for missing four out of the twelve! The clubs decided that they definitely did not want me making their Corvette floor mats. The trick questions, so to speak, used several emblems that if you missed one, you missed the other, thus compounding your mistake! I did get the 1980 and 1981 chrome versus black trim emblems correct!
Event suggestions for next year seemed to be decidedly lopsided! Fan belt toss; Pin the hat on Mike, and a Dunking booth with Mike in it. Ouch!
