NCCC Convention at Colorado Springs and NCCC's 50th Anniversary
Laurie and I just returned from a quick three days in Colorado Springs. The purpose of the trip was to participate in the Celebration of the 50th Anniversary of the National Council of Corvette Clubs (NCCC). This was an event I have been looking forward to every since my invitation arrived almost one year ago.
In 1972, as a member of Mid America Corvettes, I joined NCCC. I found many kindred spirits in NCCC and got very involved. Within a few years, not only had I become involved in the Midwest Region of NCCC, I had also started a Corvette business.
NCCC was a core foundation for Mid America Motorworks and I involved myself all the way to the Executive Board as Director of Public Relations in 1978 and 1979,
This 50th Anniversary Celebration and NCCC Convention was a chance to see many past friends and members. Laurie and I were asked to judge the decorated Club tables at the All American Welcome Party, sponsored by none other than Mid America Motorworks. Tough job, as the clubs had really brought forth their club colors and spirit! This gave me an opportunity to see and visit with Corvette lovers that I have not seen for almost 30 years.
In fact, 30 years ago the 14th of July, 1979 was my last "official" function and date of officer involvement with NCCC. What is even more meaningful to me was the fact that the date, place and event were almost the same location, NCCC Convention-Colorado Springs 1979!
I also had the opportunity to speak to and personally thank and express my gratitude to the NCCC Executive Board and the Governors at the Sunday Governors meeting. Even though Mid America Motorworks is a key sponsor of NCCC Convention, and the NCCC Future Corvette Owners Association (FCOA), we feel more like an honored friend than a financial supporter!
Proud moments of the Sunday night 50th Anniversary banquet were seeing and talking with founding members of NCCC, past officers and certainly being with my friend and multiple past NCCC President, Tom Henry. I was honored and felt so proud when my turn came and I joined all of the past NCCC Directors of Public Relations were recognized. Not so proud of the picture they used, but the honor was great, none-the-less! Did I really have hair like that?
Unlike my prior hair style(s) over the years, things at NCCC never change. People join for the cars and related activities, and stay for the friendship.
Thanks to the NCCC Board and the members of NCCC for their continued friendship and support. A big thanks also to Richard Yanko, NCCC President and Deb Lindsey, Larry Bebe, Joan Thomas, Pat Kelly, Patrick Dolan and the members of the Rocky Mountain Region NCCC and the Colorado Springs Corvette Club for their hospitality during our visit.
